Our client a well-established horticulture company in Kenya is seeking to hire a Security Manager. The successful candidate will be tasked in ensuring safety and security of all people and installations at the company sites, designing, developing, and implementing a security policy that is compliant to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
Responsibilities
- Providing oversight to the recently outsourced security unit, including the field guards, the on-site guards, control room and drone team.
- Ensuring that the contracts with the security service providers include adherence to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
- Updating the Security Policy in line with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Right.
- Aligning the company’s organization with international standards on security & human rights.
- Developing and supervising annual budgets for security operations and monitoring expenses.
- Developing and implementing protocols and procedures for emergency management and contingency planning in case of crisis situations.
- Providing security co-ordination for the Senior Management Team in response to incidents, emergencies, and crises on behalf of the organization.
- Planning and coordinating security operations for specific events or visits to the company Sites.
- Conducting onsite and online training for employees in the field of safety and security.
- Co-ordinating staff when responding to emergencies and alarms.
- Preparing reports on security incidents and breaches.
- Developing “risk scenarios” or “risk statements” and a value chain risk mapping to assess security and human rights risks throughout the value chain.
- Co-ordinating the commissioning of an in-depth conflict analysis by an external expert to better understand and take appropriate measures against theft.
- Setting up regular meetings with community leaders.
- Establishing a network with other key security players for information sharing and joint lobbying on security matters where possible.
- Developing a Memorandum of Understanding with public security forces.
- Developing an effective strategy on how to deal with the key stakeholders involved, structured plan of finding and rolling out best solutions to protect the plantation.
- Placing more signage in the farm that drone surveillance is being used.
- Ensuring body cams are provided to all security guards and they are trained to use them properly.
Qualifications
- Degree in Military science or related field
- Ex Military / Police training a must.
- 7+ years of experience as a security manager in a multinational company with at least 5 years’ experience in security & human rights in horticulture industry.
- Be conversant with international and local legislations and regulatory requirements relating to security & human rights
- Understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in the company’s operating areas.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Fluent in English language, knowledge of Swahili other local languages are an advantage.
