Job Description

Our client a leading FMCG company in Kenya is seeking to fill the role of a brand manager.

Reporting to: Head of Marketing

Roles & Responsibilities:

Brand Management: Creating a strategic roadmap for the selected set of brands.

  • Develop detailed Annual plans and activity calendars on brands to deliver on goals. Annual plan will consist of a situation analysis of the category and brands including competition, rationale for the activity calendar, plans of activities including timelines, resources, budgets and performance measurement criteria
  • Create detailed quarterly workplans along with the Media/PR/Digital/BTL Execution teams to roll out activities as per calendar. This will include briefs to be issued (to Media, PR, digital, PDU, Sales and other external agencies)
  • Build in learnings from execution into subsequent activities and plans

Brand Performance and Competition tracking:

  • Keep monitoring brand performance in different regions and channels on daily basis through analysis of primary sales and other data, and interact with the Business Development and Sales teams to help drive volume targets
  • Keep a tab on competitive activities in different regions and channels
  • Conduct at least two market visits per month in key territories to get a first-hand assessment of the situation on ground
  • Suggest action to the Commercial Leadership Team (Heads of Sales, Business Development, Commercial Control and Marketing) basis inputs and analysis from the above

Category Tracking, Brand Health: and Consumer Understanding:

  • Track brand health through regular U&A updates and various internal and external data
  • Incorporate the same into work plans to help improve brand health
  • Market research: Hypothesis testing and insight seeking to solve business and marketing issues
  • Conducting consumer immersions on a regular basis
  • Responding to consumer feedback to ensure query resolution and satisfaction

Creative Process:

  • Get approval of the creative brief from the Head of Marketing and Commercial Director
  • Initiate creative development (to the Marketing internal resource or the external agency)
  • Drive advertising (creative) execution and manage validation process including internal and external checks and approval
  • Planning for communication testing for major/focus/new brands as per priority, in conjunction with guidance of Executive - Product Development
  • Briefing for, and reviewing creatives/campaigns for PR/Digital

Product Development:

  • Recommend a product pipeline through analysis of consumer trends, both local and global
  • Work with the Executive - Product Development on developing the pipeline for new variants, products and product improvements


  • Bi-monthly report on brand performance, gaps and action plans – to be discussed internally and issues to be escalated to specific regions and Commercial leadership
  • Weekly update and monthly report to Head of Marketing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a Marketing Specialisation; and/or post-graduation degree or diploma/certificate course in Marketing
  • 8+ years experience in marketing, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience handling brands directly  in the FMCG 
  • Experience in New Product Development
