Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study potential of new products.
- Oversee all aspects of research program and experiments.
- Establish and maintain testing procedures for assessing raw materials, in both process and finished products.
- Manage trial or testing programs for products/services through the management of staff and assignment of staff and utilization of resources.
- Understand customer expectations on to-be manufactured products.
- Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers.
- Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with Marketing and Operations.
- Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals.
- Support the Head of R&D to manage the product development process from formulation to final approval.
- Perform product reviews, verification, and validation for new & existing products to ensure conformity for customer usage, market trends and required standards of quality.
- Oversee the product processing & manufacturing to maximize output.
- Generate and maintain a product data base for substantiating claims regarding the safety and efficacy of produced products for both the national & international market.
- Manage the research team and on -site hair technicians.
- Supervise the key product processes at the mixing stage, oversee the laboratory testing activities and supervise daily activities & deployments of the team.
- Effective documentation of all findings write ups and protocols and other authorizations regarding all MPL Products
- Submit periodic reports to show product development status, plan, and conduct experiments to investigate and analyze the occurrence of any side effects.
- Have regular briefs, training and meeting with the entire team including evaluating their performance and making work schedules and assignments of key tasks of the entire team.
- Budgeting and cost forecasting of technical development or research programs.
- Identify the department’s risks, their various mitigations and keep track of them.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant regulations and standards within Uganda.
Policy Adherence: Maintain strict adherence to Group and local policies and procedures, promoting a culture of compliance and integrity.
Prepare and submit detailed reports, maintaining transparency and accountability in all activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial and Analytical Chemistry, Cosmetic Science or related field.
- 5+ years experience in FMCG Industry in a similar role
- Advanced experience with MS Office, SAP >PP&MM module
Commercially astute with understanding of key commercial drivers - Willingness to work and live in Uganda
